Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, commercial flights from oversea to Vietnam have been suspended since April 2020 and there is no fix information of resuming date. Therefore, crew change became very difficult for all crew manning companies.
To deal with this situation, since June 2020, VINIC has coordinated with ship owners to arrange more than 18 rounds of vessel to deviate to Nha Trang or Vung Tau to conduct crew change. Up to now, most of the crew members have been repatriated for vacation when their contract is expired or not so long overdue.
However, there are some crew members unable to repatriate for vacation because their vessel are operating in the routes which far from Vietnam. To protect the rights for vacation of those crew, with the consent of the NSU shipowner, VINIC has negotiated with VietJetAir to arrange charter flight for our crew to repatriate from Japan to Vietnam.
At 23:00 on November 2, 2020 (JST), flight VJ5921 with a capacity of 222 passengers took off from Narita Airport, Japan, on which only 40 crew members who signed off from NSS DYNAMIC, NAVIOS MARCO POLO, NSU MILESTONE, NSU KEYSTONE, NSU BRILLIANCE landed safely at Cam Ranh International Airport at 3:35 on November 4, 2020 and then all crew members have been quarantined at hotels of Cam Ranh city.
It is expected that at the beginning of January 2021, if commercial flights will not resume, VINIC will continue to coordinate with NSU shipowner to arrange another Charter flight for our crew's repatriation.
