On March 19, 2025, at 15:45 (SMT), while en route to Port Hedland, Australia, M/V United Crown received a distress call from the yacht Elaine Marie, located at 08°11.027'S, 115°47.25'E approximately 8 nautical miles away. The yacht reported severe flooding and was at risk of sinking.
The Master immediately evaluated the situation, notified concerned parties and diverted from course to initiate a rescue operation. Despite the weather was getting worser and worser, with the wind reaching 28 knots and heavy rainfall, the rescue boat and starboard pilot ladder were swiftly prepared. By 17:30, after relentless efforts of the crew, the distressed individual, who is an Australian, was safely rescued. Though exhausted, he was fortunately uninjured and was promptly provided with appropriate care and warm hospitality.
On March 23, 2025, the rescued person disembarked safely upon the vessel’s arrival at Port Hedland, Australia.
Such brave and professional action of the Master and crewmembers stand as a shining example of seafarers’ humanity and sense of duty.
